Shirley Collins sings traditional folk with simple guitar and banjo accompaniment on this rare four-track, 1963 EP. It's less interesting than most of her subsequent releases, which benefited from far more varied and imaginative arrangements, as well as from talented accompanists such as her sister,
Dolly Collins,
Davy Graham, and members of
Fairport Convention. Still, that unique voice is there, of course, although even it is not quite as distinctive as it would be on her ensuing '60s and '70s recordings. All four tracks were added as bonus cuts to the CD reissue of
Collins' 1967 album
The Sweet Primeroses.
