Anna-Lena Laurin

Anna-Lena Laurin

composer/pianist

* En anglais uniquement

b. Sweden. Laurin began playing piano as a child, studying classical music. Then she played alto saxophone before finally settling on singing. Her first musical experience as a professional was in rock and she also sang Irish folk and Balkan music amongst many other forms. Declaring herself to be unsatisfied at the time with what she was singing, she moved to Malmö in 1987 and discovered that jazz was her mér. She sings with several Malmö-based groups including Con Brio and, especially Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum, a band comprising Anders Bergcrantz (trumpet, flügelhorn), Rolf Nilsson (guitar), Hans Andersson (bass), Kristofer Johnansson (drums). While including standards in her jazz repertoire, Laurin writes a great deal of her own material, words and music, and writes her own arrangements. In performance, she sings as an ensemble member rather than as a featured singer. She is also interested in Brazilian music and some of her own work reflects this with its Latin nuances.
