Catching Flies is the pseudonym of George King, a producer and DJ from London who makes relaxed, slightly melancholy downtempo electronic music. Mixing acoustic instruments with smooth yet intricate beats and yearning vocal samples, his songs blend elements of jazz, hip-hop, soul, and other genres. He released several EPs throughout the 2010s and opened for artists like
Bonobo and
Submotion Orchestra before issuing his debut full-length, Silver Linings, in 2019.
King first made an impact with his remix of "Life Size Ghosts" by
Mt. Wolf, which received a considerable amount of blog attention in late 2012. The remix appeared on an EP titled The Stars, which was soon followed by The Long Journey Home in 2013. His music subsequently received airplay on BBC radio from DJs such as
Gilles Peterson and Mary Anne Hobbs.
Catching Flies performed as the opening act for
Bonobo's 2014 European tour. He kept busy playing live and DJing, including opening slots for sold-out concerts by
Submotion Orchestra and
Nightmares on Wax. He collaborated with
Submotion Orchestra on their 2016 track "Ao," and additionally remixed songs by
Wilkinson,
Kwabs,
Instupendo, and others. After sporadically releasing a few singles over the years,
