As a child growing up in Puerto Rico,
José Oscar Mejías Hernandez quickly showed that he had a lot of artistic talent. When he was just a junior in high school, future reggaeton superstar
Daddy Yankee asked him create dances for him, to which he agreed, leading
Hernandez to think that he would eventually go into professional choreography. However, when he joined the boy bands ATM and
Jyve V (where he went by the name
Chelo), he realized that singing and performing appealed to him just as much. In 2006
Chelo's solo debut,
360°, a mix of Latin pop and urban, and sung in both Spanish and English, came out on Sony. ~ Marisa Brown
