The Dallas, TX-based band
Clumsy is often accused of rocking out like Minneapolis groups of yesteryear, such as
the Replacements and
Soul Asylum. It should come as no surprise then that Marc Soloman was in
Tommy Stinson's L.A.-based group Perfect before moving to Dallas to form
Clumsy with Rob Cooper. (
Stinson, the former
Replacements boy wonder, had split up Perfect to become a member of
Guns n' Roses.) An early
Clumsy incarnation featured
Goo Goo Dolls drummer Mike Malinin, who played on the original demos. The group generated buzz around Dallas with their dynamic live shows and signed to Idol Records.
Clumsy recorded their debut album, 2001's
Center of Attention Deficit Disorder, in Michigan with Tim Patalan (
Sponge,
Fretblanket). ~ Erik Hage
