James Davis consist of fraternal twins Rey and Jess Reynolds and their brother Auston Reynolds. The trio's performing name is familial as well: James is the middle name of each of the men in the Reynolds family, while Davis is the original last name of the siblings' mother. Prior to forming, Jess had a recording deal guided by songwriter and producer Harold Lilly, whose name is in the liner notes of many J Records releases of the 2000s (among others), while Rey was mentored by ace soul singer/songwriter
Leon Ware. The Reynolds siblings started working together in an organic fashion, signed to the Motown label, and released their self-titled debut EP -- a mellow but intense set of six songs -- in May 2015. ~ Andy Kellman
