Philadelphia-born, Atlanta-based R&B artist
Kalenna Harper entered the music industry as a songwriter. Beginning in 2005, she either wrote or co-wrote for the likes of
Charlotte Church ("Moodswings"),
Aretha Franklin ("Put You Up on Game"),
Trina ("Let Dem Hoes Fight," composed with
Lady Gaga and
Jim Jonsin),
the Pussycat Dolls ("Painted Windows"),
Ciara ("Pucker Up"), and
Christina Aguilera ("Bionic"). Along with
Dawn Richard, she was part of the short-lived
Diddy-Dirty Money, who released the Top Ten album
Last Train to Paris in December 2010. Once the group dissolved,
Kalenna established a solo career. In February 2012, she released a mixtape, Chamber of Diaries, highlighted by the sharp, buoyant, and defiant cuts "Go to Work" and "Black Matte Truck." Beginning in 2014, she made regular appearances on the VH1 series Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta -- the same year she released the single "Murder."
Kalenna's second album, Black Orchid, was prepared for 2015. ~ Andy Kellman
