Brazilian-Egyptian hip-hop record producer and rapper
Mally Mall came to wider public attention following a shout-out on
Drake's "The Motto." The Californian, whose real name is Jamal Rashid, became a music fan at an early age and was heavily influence by Bay Area producers like
Rick Rock and
Ant Banks. Eventually, he was signed to Empire Distribution and earned his first production credits on the
Bone Thugs-N-Harmony records Thug Stories and Strength & Loyalty. Later,
Mall became a record executive and launched his own labels Mally Mall Music and
Future Music. His team went on to produce a number of high-profile artists including
Chris Brown,
Drake,
Usher,
Snoop Dogg, and
Lupe Fiasco. Although most of his early career was spent behind the scenes,
Drake's mention of him in one of his songs, and his appearance alongside his then-girlfriend Nikki Mudarris in VH1's reality TV show Love & Hip Hop, raised his public profile. Subsequently, he delved deeper into the performance side of the music industry, releasing hit singles like "Where You At," featuring
French Montana,
2 Chainz, and
Iamsu, "Purpose," featuring
Rich the Kid and
Rayven Justice, and "Physical," featuring
Jeremih and
E-40. ~ Bekki Bemrose
