Martin Yates is a British conductor and composer. He studied at the Kimbolton School, and pursued music at the Royal College of Music and Trinity College of Music. He studied conducting with
Bernard Keeffe, piano with Ian Lake, Jakob Kaletsky, and
Alan Rowlands, and composition with Richard Arnell. He has appeared with many orchestras, such as the
London Symphony Orchestra, the
Philharmonia, the
Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the
Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, the
BBC Concert Orchestra, the
Swedish Chamber Orchestra, the
Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the
Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, the
City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and many others. He served as the principal conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra of London from 1994 to 1999, and in 2010 he became the principal conductor of the symphony orchestra of the Cambridge University Music Society. He has worked with the
Royal Opera and Ballet at Covent Garden, and conducted performances with the
Royal Swedish Opera, the Norwegian Opera and Ballet, the Finnish National Ballet, and the Netherlands Dance Theatre. He has recorded extensively for Dutton.
