Nichelle Colvin is a multigenre pop and soul musician from Gary, Indiana represented by the SSGM Records independent music label. She has cited a broad variety of legends as artistic influences including Anita Baker, Phyllis Hyman, The Emotions, Jean Carne, Angela Windbush, Luther, The Jones Girls, The Jacksons, Barbra Streisand, Julie Andrews, The Winans, Sting, Eryka Badu, Aretha Franklin and Gladys Knight. Frequent collaborators include songwriter and singer Decagon AKA Gon, and saxophonist Mike Carson, whose own debut record, “Signature,” was produced by Nichelle Colvin. Asked to describe her songs personally, Nichelle Colvin writes: “I have a storyteller's style of music. I always like to tell some sort of story or have a message in my music.” Nichelle Colvin's repertoire includes her most popular recent release, “Nichelle's Color Purple Soundtrack,” which recently appeared on SSGM Records. “Nichelle's Color Purple Soundtrack” feat. Ideal and Decagon has been cataloged as a country release and continues to garner widespread critical and fan acclaim. Colvin's soulful, bluesy tone on “Nichelle's Color Purple Soundtrack” has made it a resounding success with a variety of audiences, but particularly among fans of bluegrass. “Life and it's ups and downs are the messages that I deliver in my music,” says Colvin of her narrative songwriting. “Also, the many emotions that occur to us when going through 'life's journey.'” Nichelle Colvin started singing in church at the Rosa Jackson Youth Choir at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church. Each of her first three songs, "Hold On", "Yahweh" and "What turns you on," written her sophomore year of college, received a Billboard Award. Colvin's debut LP record, “Relations 1,” both sold out and resulted in her first UK licensing deal on Street Culture Records. This led to her second record, “Millenaire,” which garnered the interest of Cafedesoul Records and with whom she would sign. This led to her “Language of Love” compilation release, a rare feat for an artist with only two previous official drops, and the album found a feature in Echoes Magazine. Her third record, “Berkana,” would be the first to attract a label on US soil, Taste Records. Today Nichelle Colvin works on her fourth studio record, “Soulfully Yours, Nichelle.” Nichelle's singing includes collaborations such as her famous “A Call to Courage” performance with saxophonist Darron McKinney at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Candlelight Vigil in Washington, DC, May 2001. Former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft and Sen. Trent Lott were among the attending dignitaries who were visibly moved by Colvin and McKinney's incredible musical salute, as well as the 18,000 law enforcement officers, and the families and friends of America's fallen (see https://youtu.be/0nU-ykP-nmM). Nichelle also performed the song live on Detroit Fox News. Nichelle Colvin's repertoire also includes her “Touch Me Right” remix feat. Rah Digga (2017), “Relieve Her Stress” feat. Keith Murray (2018), and “What He Does to Me” feat. Chubb Rock (2019). To her listeners new and old, Colvin says: “You are entering a new realm with me, let's have some fun.” “Nichelle's Color Purple Soundtrack” by Nichelle Colvin is available from over 600 quality digital music stores online worldwide now. https://nichellecolvin.bandcamp.com/
