Supa Squad are a Cape-Verdean/ Portuguese Reggae Dancehall musical duo consisting of cousins Mr Marley (born Marley Rosario) and Zacky Man (born Isaac Rosario), formerly known as Mr Marley & Zacky Man. The duo started in 2011 however they released their first music videos “System Ovaload” and “Gyal Move” in 2013.
Despite coming from a family with a musical history, they started producing together in the end of 2011 and released their first track “Babylon Is Falling” (Everyday Riddim by Kapten Röd & Million Stylez) in 2012, thus gathering tens of thousands of views on YouTube and followers. To follow up to their success, they played in several concerts and festivals throughout Portugal and wrote some lyrics to Jamaican instrumentals from producers like Di Genius, Don Corleone and Rvssian.
They got their initial break in 2013 when they joined the record label Storytellers Inc. and released 2 singles with them. Their first music video “System Ovaload” (Summer Bounce Riddim by Di Genius) which was a national success, followed closely by “Gyal Move” (Mad Collab Riddim by Di Genius), a song that opened many new doors for the duo such as sharing the stage with Leftside and Charly Black or working with Sentinel Sound and Pow Pow Muvement.
As the cousins are both producers, songwriters and musicians, at some point they felt the need for a musical identity and so they decided to produce their own music, creating what they describe as a “solid fusion of new roots and modern dancehall” and took on the name Supa Squad to reflect the evolution of their sound.
As a result of that comes out their first own production “Top General” in 2014. This track established their name on the national Reggae Dancehall scene, it was played on several discos and radios across the country and inspired many dance groups to do choreography videos.
After releasing a few more singles, Supa Squad debut their independent homonymous EP in November of 2015. This EP has 7 tracks, one of them featuring the Jamaican singer Duane Stephenson, and another produced by Major Lazer, the rest of the EP was produced, recorded, mixed and mastered by them. It had thousands of downloads on the first month.
Since then they got known for their energetic performances and dynamic stage presence, their danceable songs and conscious lyrics and have been touring all over Portugal and around, playing in big venues and festivals such as Sumol Summer FEST, MEO Sudoeste, MUSA, Hard Club, Campo Pequeno and sharing the stage with big artists like Capleton, Popcaan, Protoje, Ky-Mani Marley, Jesse Royal, Tanya Stephens, SOJA and Dub Inc. They also have collaborations with a few international artists such as Ce’Cile, Duane Stephenson, Leftside and some national artists such as Karetus, Vírgul, and Putzgrilla, and making guest appearances at other artists’ concerts such as Boss AC, Regula, Richie Campbell, Xibata.
Since January of 2016 they’ve released 2 strong singles “That Body” and “Beautiful Day” which incorporated EDM in a new attempt to expand their musical horizons and therefore take their music outside the Portuguese borders. After all their experience, they’re well prepared to raise their music to an international level"
