The Bangs

The Bangs

band from New Jersey fronted by vocalist Gary Roupenian

* En anglais uniquement

Formed in Los Angeles, California, USA, in 1981 from the ashes of the Colours. The line-up was Susanna Hoffs (b. 17 January 1959, Newport Beach, California, USA; vocals/guitar), Vicki Peterson (b. Victoria Anne Theresa Peterson, 11 January 1958, Northridge, California, USA; vocals/guitar) and Debbi Peterson (b. Deborah Peterson, 22 August 1961, San Fernando Valley, Northridge, California, USA; drums), later joined by Annette Zilinskas (bass) after the release of their debut single. Early comparisons to the Go-Go’s became an albatross round their necks from which, in this form at least, they never really escaped. They made their debut in 1981 with ‘Getting Out Of Hand’, issued on Down Kiddies Records. This was followed by an EP for EastWest Records. Despite their obvious ‘pop’ appeal, the Bangs nevertheless performed regularly with local punk and hardcore bands such as the Descendents and Channel 3. They found much greater success as the Bangles, though Zilinskas departed before their breakthrough to join Blood On The Saddle.
