Iowa family ensemble
the Browns are known for their ebullient Southern gospel sound. They built a following touring the country in the 2000s and have released a handful of albums, including 2010's A New Day, 2015's
Aim Higher, and 2020's
Brave, which showcase their mix of gospel, classical, hymns, and contemporary Christian music.
Hailing from Le Mars, Iowa,
the Browns formed in 2000 and feature the talents of siblings Adam, Michaela, and Andrew, as well as their mother,
Shelly. Growing up on their farm, the family would often sing and play their violins together. Matriarch
Shelly encouraged her children to practice their vocal harmonies and eventually began performing with them as a group. As they developed into a polished unit, they began recording, releasing albums like 2009's Heritage Hymn Collection, Vol. 1, 2010's A New Day, and 2015's
Aim Higher. Also in 2015, the family opened the historic Browns Century Theater in downtown Le Mars, where they perform throughout the year. The holiday-themed
Christmas Around the World arrived in 2018, followed a year later by another holiday set,
Christmas in Our Hometown. In 2020,
the Browns released the
Wayne Haun-produced EP
Brave on StowTown Records. ~ Matt Collar
