b. New York, USA. Formerly recognised for his hit singles with Frankie Bones as Musto And Bones, under his own steam Musto has grown to become one of dance music’s prime remixing talents, with close to half a century of projects under his belt. These include many major artists attempting to dip a toe into the world of dance (Michael Jackson, Gloria Estefan, Cyndi Lauper, Erasure). Musto grew up on a diet of Philly soul, before going on to present his own mix show on WAKT alongside the then-underground talents of Shep Pettibone and Tony Humphries on Kiss FM. He began remixing for other artists, the first example of which was Junior Byron’s ‘Woman’ for Vanguard Records, and also taught himself keyboard skills. His first major label commission was S’Express’ ‘Nothing To Lose’ in the early 90s. His biggest commercial break, however, was the opportunity to remix Michael Jackson’s ‘In The Closet’, which went gold. In 1994 he formed Colourblind with Victor Simonelli, partially to satisfy a contract that was still extant between his former Musto And Bones partnership and Beggars Banquet Records. After removing Bones from the contract, he teamed with Simonelli and added first Barbara Tucker then Dina Roche. They initially provided a single, written and produced by Musto, ‘He’s So Fine’, before an album scheduled for late 1994. He also runs the Northcott Productions empire, home to the Experimental label.
