Finnish producer and DJ
Yotto makes driving, slightly dramatic progressive house with a pop sensibility. After earning support from
Above & Beyond and
Pete Tong and remixing songs by
Coldplay and
Gorillaz, he released his debut full-length,
Hyperfall, in 2018. He's continued issuing yearning, vocal-driven collaborations as well as more club-focused instrumental releases such as 2021's Songs You Might Remember from Some Parties.
Otto Yliperttula took classical piano lessons as a child, and later got into hip-hop and metal as a teenager, when he was involved with skateboard culture. He began his musical career as part of the Helsinki-based progressive house duo
Something Good, who released their debut single, "Loop"/"Hanko," on Silk Royal Records in 2009, and continued issuing melodic, upbeat material on labels like Nellie Recordings and Nocturnal Groove. Although Yliperttula had done a few remixes under the name
Yotto since his career began, he made his official solo debut with the 2014 single "All I Want"/"Cycle." He then signed to the
Above & Beyond-affiliated Anjunadeep imprint and released the smooth but suspenseful "Memento"/"Azzurro," which received BBC Radio 1 airplay from
Pete Tong. The vocal-driven Wondering EP (featuring
Yotto's brother, Caps) appeared soon after, and the producer continued frequently issuing material through Anjunadeep, additionally remixing songs by artists like
Coldplay,
Röyksopp,
Gorillaz, and
Lane 8.
Yotto's debut album,
Hyperfall, arrived in 2018, with guests including Sønin,
Vök, and Caps. Hyperfall (Remixed) followed in 2019, and
Yotto launched his Odd One Out label (named after a track from
Hyperfall) with singles like "Shifter" and "Nova." Solo singles as well as collaborations with artists like
Lane 8 and
Cassian continued to appear, and the EP Songs You Might Remember from Some Parties was issued in 2021. ~ Paul Simpson
